Squee and Cocoa

Squee:7/4/2006 - 9/7/2018
Squee (nee Dmitri ) was tendered to the Multnomah Humane Society as a member of a large litter of unwanted kittens. The Cat Adoption Team  in Sherwood Oregon received him and placed him for adoption. There was uncertainty about the exact date of his birth, so he was given the birthday July 4, 2006.  He joined us at about 12 weeks old, give or take a few weeks.
He is a predominantly Russian Blue mix, with some unidentified long hair thrown in  ( one of his littermates is a black longhair cat ). Other than  a short bout of respiratory illness (cured by a ten day regimen of antibiotics)  he has proven to be a healthy, typical kitten who will play with the nearest living thing or just about any nearby inanimate object if no one else wants to play.
He idolizes the much older Cocoa and studies his every move in order to learn how to "be a cat"  from him.Update on 9/8/2018 Squee passed peacefully of acute kidney failure. He was always there for us and will be issed beyond measure.

Cocoa:01/2004 - 08/20/2019
Cocoa (nee Cocoa Bean) was a large Siamese exhibiting all  the classic Siamese traits of intelligence, observation and loyalty. A very kind lady found him "dumpster diving" at an apartment complex in Tualatin, Oregon.  She turned him in  to the  Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood Oregon after attempts to find the owner of this fine animal failed. Veterinary inspection of his teeth indicates that he was about 18 months old.  He remained a hard cat to figure out. He carried a very large (2-1/2") scar on his back. The incision was not medical, and it is possible that it was inflicted by the undercarriage of a moving automobile. After we adopted him, he spent a lot of melancholy time looking out of the windows as if waiting for his loved one(s) to claim him.  Extensive search of  old classified advertisements and internet announcements failed to locate the original owner. We had him rescanned for an older chip, but found none. Suffering from ear mites, round worms, and malodorous kitty stomach gas, each trip to the vet depressed him, as if he worried he would never have a home again.  The mites and worms  ( and virtually all of the flatulence problems ) were cured.  He "adopted" the late Squee (7/2006-9/2018) and that resuscitated his  attitude in no small measure. He became very well mannered, and demanded to sleep with Ben. He took on on the mission of teaching Squeee the science and art of cathood. I recall him crawling on his belly to the patio door, ears and tail down, “hunting” birds on the porch while Squeee looked on. Squeee then tried it, comically uncoordinated, tail up much to Bean’s consternation. When Squee’s kidneys finally failed, Bean would sit in from of Squee’s hiding place as if to guard him. He took Squee’s passing more poorly than I did. Bean slept on the other pillow on my bed, waking up periodically to sit on my stomach and purr loudly at me. He was never unavailable for love. He was my best friend. We were there for each other. His occasional loose bowels became more frequent in the last few weeks, finally resulting in catastrophic diarrhea followed by serious vomiting. His white blood cell count was up, so we administered antibiotics. The diagnosis was incurable colorectal cancer. At 1:32 PM on August 20,2019 Mr. Bean was put to sleep. He leaves a large hole in my heart, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
